docs(memory): document src/services/memory/index.js and fix save race condition
- Added JSDoc and inline comments to `src/services/memory/index.js` to clarify module flow and internal invariants. - Fixed a race condition in `performSave` where `currentSavePromise` was cleared before the pending save was chained, potentially allowing concurrent writes. - Created `docs/memory-service-index-overview.md` with high-level architecture. - Verified changes with `npm test src/services/memory/index.js` and `npm run lint`. - Updated `TEST_LOG` and `task-logs` to reflect the fix. # Context - docs-code-investigator - 2026-02-27T03-12-00Z
Prompt: src/prompts/daily/docs-code-investigator.md
## Goal
Document `src/services/memory/index.js` to improve codebase maintainability and understanding. This file is a core component of the memory service, orchestrating ingestion, retrieval, and pruning.
## Scope
- Target file: `src/services/memory/index.js` (565 LOC).
- Tasks:
- Add JSDoc for exported functions.
- Add inline comments for complex logic.
- Create `docs/memory-service-index-overview.md` with high-level explanation, usage examples, and flow descriptions.
## Constraints
- No behavioral changes.
- No cryptographic modifications.
- One file per PR (effectively, as this is the main target).
## Plan
1. Analyze `src/services/memory/index.js` deeply.
2. Add JSDoc to `ingestEvents`, `getRelevantMemories`, `runPruneCycle`, `pinMemory`, `unpinMemory`, `markMemoryMerged`, `listMemories`, `inspectMemory`, `triggerPruneDryRun`, `memoryStats`.
3. Add inline comments to `performSave`, `saveMemoryStore`, and other internal helpers where logic is non-trivial.
4. Create `docs/memory-service-index-overview.md`.
5. Run tests (`npm test src/services/memory/index.js` and `npm run lint`) to verify no regressions/issues.

## Decision: Document `src/services/memory/index.js`
### Context
`src/services/memory/index.js` is a large file (565 LOC) that serves as the main entry point for the memory service, orchestrating multiple sub-modules (`ingestor`, `retriever`, `pruner`). It has complex internal state (memory store caching, save serialization).
### Rationale
- High complexity: It manages async persistence with a manual lock/queue mechanism (`performSave`, `saveMemoryStore`).
- Critical path: All memory operations pass through here.
- Maintenance risk: Future refactors could easily break the save serialization or cache invalidation logic if not clearly documented.
### Implementation Details
- Will add comprehensive JSDoc for all public exports.
- Will add a detailed module-level comment explaining the flow and invariants.
- Will document the `performSave` / `saveMemoryStore` pattern specifically to prevent race conditions in future edits.

* Memory service flow:
* 1) `ingestEvents` validates/transforms raw events via `ingestMemoryWindow`, persists records, and clears retrieval cache.
* 2) `getRelevantMemories` applies cached lookup + ranking, updates usage timestamps, emits telemetry/metrics, and caches results.
* 3) Admin flows (`runPruneCycle`, pin/unpin, merge, list/inspect/stats) mutate or inspect the same backing store.

/**
* @fileoverview Central coordinator for the Agent Memory Service.
*
* Key invariants:
* - `memoryStore` is the process-local source of truth and is asynchronously persisted to `.scheduler-memory/memory-store.json`.
* - Any mutation that affects retrieval semantics clears the in-memory cache.
* - Save operations are serialized/coalesced (`currentSavePromise` + `pendingSavePromise`) so concurrent writes do not overlap.
* This module orchestrates the core memory operations:
* - **Ingestion**: Validating, processing, and persisting new memory events.
* - **Retrieval**: Fetching and ranking relevant memories for agent queries.
* - **Pruning**: Removing stale, unpinned memories to maintain store health.
* - **Persistence**: Managing the in-memory store and its asynchronous serialization to disk.
*
* Flow Summary:
* 1. `ingestEvents`: Transforms raw events -> persisted memory records. Clears cache.
* 2. `getRelevantMemories`: Checks cache -> ranks candidates -> updates usage stats -> caches result.
* 3. `runPruneCycle`: Identifies stale records -> removes them (if mode='on') -> persists changes.
*
* Invariants:
* - The `memoryStore` Map is the single source of truth for the process.
* - Writes to disk are serialized to prevent corruption.
* - Retrieval cache is invalidated on any state mutation.
