Closes the dual-event drift the user flagged: an opted-in 34235 mirror now stays
in lockstep with the canonical 30078 automatically — no per-video babysitting.
- js/services/nip71MirrorSync.js: syncNip71MirrorAfterEdit (re-publish if still
eligible; unshare + clear flag if it became ineligible, e.g. flipped private),
syncNip71MirrorAfterDelete (remove + clear flag). Plus initNip71MirrorSync()
which subscribes to nostrService's EXISTING videos:edited/videos:deleted events
— so the size-capped nostrService is untouched.
- js/services/nip71MirrorFlags.js: pure resolveEditSync/resolveDeleteSync decisions.
- applicationBootstrap: one-line initNip71MirrorSync(app.nostrService) wiring.
- All best-effort: a mirror failure never breaks the core edit/delete.
tests: resolver decisions (lockstep/unshare/none) + delete clears the flag +
event wiring is idempotent. Mutation-verified (eligibility branch load-bearing).

Makes the NIP-71 mirror user-facing via the My Videos tab — the natural
manage-my-videos surface — without touching the single-writer publish path.
- js/constants.js: new FEATURE_NIP71_MIRROR flag (default on). Independent of
FEATURE_PUBLISH_NIP71, which is already wired to the LEGACY 21/22 auto-publish in
videoPublisher.js — flipping that would activate the wrong (non-opt-in) model, so
the opt-in mirror gets its own flag and that legacy path stays dormant.
- js/services/nip71MirrorFlags.js: per-video opt-in persistence
(pubkey+videoRootId, off by default) + pure resolveMirrorToggle decision.
- MyVideosController: per-row "Share to apps" / "Shared ✓" toggle (gated by the
flag), wired to nip71MirrorService.publish/remove. Ineligible videos show a
disabled "Share off" with the reason (private / NSFW-not-allowed-here / needs
hosted URL) — the ALLOW_NSFW_CONTENT moderation gate surfaces here too.
tests/nip71-mirror-flags.test.mjs: persistence scoping + toggle decision
(enabled→remove, eligible→publish, ineligible→blocked). Mutation-verified.

Adds remove(video, options) to the mirror service for delete / toggle-off:
- NIP-09 kind-5 delete referencing BOTH addressable kinds
(34235:pub:root + 34236:pub:root, with k tags) so it's robust to a
since-changed orientation.
- empty-replace tombstone (same d-tag, title, NO imeta) so clients that cache
addressable events but ignore NIP-09 still see the entry cleared; uses the
short kind for portrait videos.
Published to the write/outbox relay set; unavailable without a signer.
tests/nip71-mirror-service.test.mjs: remove publishes delete (both kinds) +
tombstone; portrait => 34236 tombstone; unavailable without signer.
Mutation-verified (tombstone emission + both-kind a-tags load-bearing).
Note: full unit suite green apart from the documented order-dependent flakes
(uploadModal-reset; a transient login-modal clipboard global-state flake) — both
pass in isolation and are unrelated to this change.

Publish service for the opt-in NIP-71 mirror (kind 34235/36) to the user's
write/outbox relays, built on the Phase 0 builder. Flag still off; not yet wired
into the publish path (next increment).
- js/services/nip71MirrorService.js: createNip71MirrorService (DI) → isAvailable,
canMirror(video), publish(video, options). Signs with the active signer and
publishes to the write set (getDeletePublishRelays). Resolves the moderation
audit item: the site ALLOW_NSFW_CONTENT gate — an instance that won't surface
NSFW must not publish it outward (enforced in both publish() and canMirror(),
defense-in-depth). Private/url rules come from the builder.
tests/nip71-mirror-service.test.mjs: publishes a public video; NSFW blocked when
ALLOW_NSFW_CONTENT=false (and allowed when true); private/url-less refused;
unavailable without signer. Mutation-verified (NSFW gate load-bearing).

Saves push silently as before, but if the relay copy is NEWER than the one this
device last pushed (another device changed it), the user is now asked to confirm
before overwriting — preventing a silent multi-device clobber. No nag on normal
saves.
- js/services/settingsSyncFlags.js: track per-pubkey+kind last-pushed created_at
(getSyncPushedAt/setSyncPushedAt).
- js/services/syncConflict.js: pushWithConflictCheck — peek remote created_at
(list-only, no decrypt), compare to last push, call confirmOverwrite only on a
real conflict, then push strictly-newer than remote so the replace wins.
- storage/walletSyncService push()/enable() route through it and accept a
confirmOverwrite callback.
- ProfileStorage/WalletController supply confirmOverwrite (window.confirm) and
surface a "kept the newer copy" status when the user declines.
tests/sync-conflict.test.mjs: no-remote→silent, newer→prompt(+decline blocks
push), confirm→strictly-newer push, older→no prompt. Mutation-verified
(ignoring the decline fails). Service-test twins gained exists().

Completes todo #15. On login, if an encrypted copy of the user's storage and/or
wallet settings exists on their Nostr account — and this device hasn't already
opted in — offer to restore it.
- js/nostr/encryptedSync.js: exists(dTag) — cheap list-only existence peek (NO
decrypt, so it doesn't spend the signer budget); decryption only on accept.
- storage/walletSyncService: hasRemote() wrappers over exists().
- js/services/settingsRestorePrompt.js: one-time per-pubkey offer. Only prompts
for items with a remote copy not already enabled locally; if nothing remote
exists it does NOT consume the one-time offer (a note published later can still
prompt next login). On accept, pulls + applies.
- app.js handleLoginModalSuccess: fires maybeOfferSettingsRestore(pubkey) after
login, deferred ~2s so relays connect; best-effort, never blocks login; toasts
on restore.
tests/settings-restore-prompt.test.mjs: offer+restore-only-remote-items, decline,
prompt-once, skip-already-enabled, don't-consume-when-empty. Mutation-verified.

Adds encrypted cross-login sync for the NWC wallet connection (todo #15),
reusing the encrypted-sync core under d-tag "bitvid:nwc".
- js/services/settingsSyncFlags.js: shared per-pubkey opt-in flag store
(storage/wallet); storageSyncService refactored onto it (identical behavior,
tests still green).
- js/services/walletSyncService.js: factory (NwcSettingsService is per-app, not a
singleton). push() syncs the current nwcUri (+defaultZap); pull() applies it via
updateActiveNwcSettings; disable() wipes the note.
- Wallet pane (components/profile-modal.html + ProfileWalletController): opt-in
toggle + Restore button + a strong SPENDING warning, shown only when a signer
can encrypt. Enabling requires an explicit window.confirm (the URI can spend).
Re-pushes on save when enabled; and on wallet DISCONNECT while synced it clears
the note so a removed spending URI doesn't linger (encrypted) on relays.
tests/wallet-sync-service.test.mjs: enable-pushes-uri, pull-restores-via-
updateActiveNwcSettings, disable-clears, no-wallet-doesn't-publish. Mutation-
verified (skip-apply + skip-clear both fail).

Wires the encrypted-sync core (0abb82b9) to the live client + active signer and
adds the storage-credential sync service. No UI yet — the Storage pane toggle is
the next increment.
- js/nostr/encryptedSyncFacade.js: default encryptedSync instance bound to
nostrClient (write set via getDeletePublishRelays, read relays, pool) and the
active signer's signEvent. Keeps the core pure/testable.
- js/services/storageService.js: exportAccountRecord / importAccountRecord — get
the on-disk account record and restore it on another device. Import REPLACES
the local record (same-pubkey envelope unlocks with the same signer); cross-
device merge is a follow-up.
- js/services/storageSyncService.js: enable/disable/push/pull under d-tag
"bitvid:storage-connections", with a per-pubkey opt-in flag (off by default).
enable() pushes immediately; disable() wipes the published note.
tests/storage-sync-service.test.mjs: enable-pushes-exported-record, pull-restores
on a fresh device, disable-clears, empty-record-doesn't-publish. Mutation-verified
(skip-import and skip-clear both fail).

The bucket listing returns raw keys, but deleteVideoStorage only works from note
objects — so orphan cleanup needs a key-based delete. Adds
r2Service.deleteStorageKeys({ keys, npub|pubkey }) (unlock-gated; deletes exactly
the given keys, records per-key failures without aborting the batch). Extracts a
shared resolveStorageClient (unlock-gated connection+client resolution) now used
by both listVideoStorageObjects and deleteStorageKeys, removing the duplication.
Tests + mutation-verified: never deletes while locked, empty-list no-op, deletes
exactly the given keys, per-key failure isolation. The shared lock gate is
mutation-verified across both list and delete paths.
Build + full lint green (r2Service under its file-size budget).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <[email protected]>
Adds the bucket-enumeration primitive the My Videos tab needs to find orphan and
missing files:
- s3 layer: ListObjectsV2Command wired into the SDK wrapper + a paginated
listObjects({ s3, bucket, prefix, maxKeys }) helper (follows continuation
tokens, bounded by maxKeys).
- r2Service.listVideoStorageObjects({ npub|pubkey }) — unlock-gated, lists under
the user's own u/<npub>/ prefix; returns { ok, reason, keys }. Body lives in
r2ServiceHelpers (with a shared buildProviderClient) so r2Service stays under
its file-size budget; ensureS3SdkLoaded is injectable via ctx for testing.
Tests + mutation-verified: never lists while locked (storage-locked, no call),
no-connection / missing-bucket gating, and unlocked listing is scoped to the
user's own u/<npub>/ prefix (empty-prefix mutation fails). Removing the lock gate
or widening the prefix each fail a scenario.
Build + full lint green (r2Service back under limit).
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <[email protected]>
Deleting a video removes the Nostr note(s) but cleanup of the underlying R2/S3
object was silently skipped when storage was locked — leaving the file publicly
downloadable with no indication to the user. Now the delete flow surfaces a
clear heads-up when that happens, telling the user to unlock storage and delete
again (or remove the object from their bucket manually).
To make the signal accurate, deleteVideoStorage now resolves the affected object
keys BEFORE the credentials check (publicBaseUrl is available even while
locked). So "storage-locked" is reported only when there are genuinely hosted
objects to remove; an external-URL video (nothing on the user's bucket) returns
"no-matching-objects" and never triggers a false warning.
Tests (deleteVideoStorage via injected credentials/deleteObject): locked +
hosted object -> storage-locked; locked + external URL -> no-matching-objects
(no false alarm); unlocked -> actually deletes the object. Mutation-verified —
restoring the old credentials-first ordering misreports the external-URL case.
Build + full lint green.

File-size decomposition (no behavior change). Move the pure helpers
(normalizeInfoHash, isValidInfoHash, resolveUploadIdentifier, buildCorsGuidance,
createDefaultSettings, safeDecodeNpub) and the verifyPublicAccess flow (as an
instance-param function with a thin delegator) into js/services/r2ServiceHelpers.js.
Dropped the now-unused calculateTorrentInfoHash import from the service.
r2Service.js: 1376 -> 1192 lines (below its original 1194 baseline; re-recorded
to 1192).
Build + full unit suite green.

File-size decomposition (no behavior change). Move the localStorage comment-cache
methods (getCommentCacheKey, handleCommentCacheError, getCachedComments,
cacheComments, removeCommentCache, clearCommentCache, persistCommentCache,
serializeCommentsForCache) into js/services/commentThreadCache.js as functions
that take the service instance; the service keeps thin delegators so all call
sites are unchanged. Cache constants moved with them; FIVE_MINUTES_MS import
dropped from the service.
commentThreadService.js: 1296 -> 1100 lines (below its original 1122 baseline;
re-recorded to 1100).

Completes end-to-end multi-webseed support: the editor can now see, add, and
remove every web seed a video carries.
- magnetShared: promote normalizeWebSeedList to a shared export (videoNotePayload
now imports it) and add setMagnetWebSeeds(), which replaces a magnet's COMPLETE
ws= set with exactly the requested list. ensureWebSeeds is append-only, so
without set-semantics a webseed a user deleted would linger in the magnet;
setMagnetWebSeeds strips the existing ws= params first, making removal stick.
- edit-video-modal.html: the single "Web seed (ws=)" input becomes a "Web seeds
(one per line)" textarea with backup-origin help text.
- EditModal: open() populates the field from extractAllWebSeeds() (every seed,
not just the first). On save, when the field was manually edited the magnet's
ws set is rebuilt from the field via setMagnetWebSeeds (true add/remove);
otherwise existing seeds are preserved untouched. The content `ws` field still
stores the primary (first) seed while the magnet carries the full set.
Mutation-verified (no-strip and no-add both fail the removal/add tests); build,
relevant lints (inline-styles, tokens, innerHTML), and full unit suite green.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <[email protected]>
Let uploaders declare a backup origin at creation time so the swarm can keep
streaming when the primary CDN is overloaded.
- upload-modal.html: the single "Web Seed (ws)" input becomes a "Web seeds
(one per line)" textarea with help text explaining the backup-origin use
case and the byte-identical-file requirement.
- UploadModal: in upload mode the R2/CDN url stays the primary webseed and any
textarea entries follow it (passed as [primaryUrl, textarea]); external mode
already flowed the field through. All parsing stays in the payload layer.
- videoNotePayload.normalizeWebSeedList now splits every entry (array OR
string) on newlines/commas, so the upload-modal's [url, "a\nb"] shape and a
plain multi-line string both expand + dedupe correctly.
Mutation-verified (array entries no longer split fails the upload-shape test);
build + full unit suite green. Lints relevant to the change (inline-styles,
tokens, innerHTML) pass.
Note: npm run lint also reports pre-existing file-size violations in unrelated
files (SignerManager, watchHistory, playbackService, webtorrent, etc.) that
grew in earlier commits — none are touched here. Flagging separately.

Foundation for declaring more than one web seed per video so the WebTorrent
swarm can pull pieces from an independent backup origin when the primary CDN
is overloaded — multiple `ws=` params are the standard BEP19 carrier and the
playback path already attaches every webseed it finds in the magnet.
- magnetShared: add extractAllWebSeeds(), which returns every `ws=` URL
(deduped, in order) instead of only the first like extractMagnetHints —
so a magnet with several webseeds can be round-tripped without dropping the
extras.
- videoNotePayload: normalizeWebSeedList() accepts the ws field as an array OR
a newline/comma-delimited string and feeds the full, deduped set into the
magnet (plus the hosted CDN url, as before). A single ws string still works
unchanged; the content `ws` field still reflects the primary seed.
Upload/Edit UI to author and manage the list lands in slices 2 and 3.
Mutation-verified (array-drop, split-drop, first-only, dedupe-loss all fail
the new tests); build + full unit suite green.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <[email protected]>
The video's hosted CDN URL was added to WebTorrent's `urlList`, but a
standalone hosted-file URL is only a valid BEP19 webseed for a SINGLE-file
torrent. For a multi-file torrent WebTorrent treats it as a base directory and
appends "<torrent name>/<file path>", producing a doubled URL that 404s on
every request — the flood seen on e.g. archive.org videos.
The CDN URL is no longer placed in urlList. It's forwarded separately as
`hostedUrlWebSeed` and attached post-metadata (handleTorrentStream) via
torrent.addWebSeed ONLY when the torrent is a single file, where the URL maps
directly to the file. Multi-file torrents get no file-pointing webseed, so no
flood. Magnet-declared `ws=` webseeds are unaffected (passed via urlList as
before). With CDN-first, dual-source videos play the CDN directly anyway, so
this only affects forced-torrent / URL-less paths.
Tests: a single-file torrent receives the hosted URL via addWebSeed; a
multi-file torrent does not. The single-file guard is mutation-verified.

Audit of the nsec (direct private key) login found the client's
registerPrivateKeySigner silently ignored the access-control validator AND
the persist/passphrase options, so:
- Access-control bypass (security): nsec logins skipped the blacklist/whitelist
gate that NIP-07 and NIP-46 logins enforce. registerPrivateKeySigner now runs
the validator BEFORE activating the signer and forgets a since-blocked stored
key on denial.
- "Remember this key" never worked: it persisted nothing (the payload used a
shape persistSessionActor rejects), and there was no way to detect or unlock a
saved key — getStoredSessionActorMetadata and unlockStoredSessionActor were
referenced by the UI/provider but defined nowhere. Implemented both on the
client: persist now writes the canonical { privateKeyEncrypted, encryption }
shape (PBKDF2 250k + AES-GCM, already in place), the login modal can detect a
saved key, and unlock decrypts with the passphrase and re-activates via the
same proven createNsecAdapter path. The nsec provider now passes the
access-control validator to the unlock path too.
- Fixed misleading copy: the provider claimed BIP-39 seed support, but only
hex/nsec are accepted.
Untouched-but-verified: decode/validate (hex64 + nsec1), logout clears the
in-memory key, no key logging.
Tests (tests/nsec-login.test.mjs): a denied validator rejects login and
activates no signer; persist -> unlock round-trips the same pubkey (wrong
passphrase fails); unlock re-checks access control and forgets a blocked key.
The validator-enforcement and persist-shape fixes are both mutation-verified.

Deleted comments previously persisted (no kind-5 handling; the thread cache
only merged-in). The thread service now processes NIP-09 deletion requests:
- A kind-5 event removes a target comment only when it is signed by that
comment's own author (you cannot delete someone else's comment). The author
match is the security boundary.
- Deletions are remembered per target, so a comment that arrives after its
author's deletion (out-of-order relays) is suppressed on insert.
- On load, after fetching the thread, deletions for the loaded comment ids are
fetched (kind 5, #e: ids) and applied before the thread is rendered, so the
cache can't resurrect a deleted comment. Removal re-renders the thread.
- Replies to a removed comment become unreachable from the root and are hidden
with their deleted parent.
`fetchDeletionEvents` is injectable; the default queries the relay pool. Live
deletions mid-session aren't subscribed yet (a kind-5 can't be scoped by the
video upfront) — deletions are honored on each thread open.
Tests: author-signed deletion removes the comment; a non-author deletion is
ignored; an out-of-order deletion suppresses the later comment. Both the
author-match and the suppress-on-insert guard are mutation-verified.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <[email protected]>
- discussionCountService now counts getAllowedCommentKinds() (NIP-22 kind 1111
+ legacy kind 1) instead of 1111-only, so the discussion badge no longer
undercounts threads that contain legacy comments. The count filters are
derived from the same source the thread display uses, so they can't drift.
- Add white-space: pre-wrap to .comment-thread__body so comments with line
breaks/paragraphs preserve them instead of collapsing into one run-on line
(long lines still wrap via word-break: break-word).
Test: spec-corrected discussion-count-service to assert the count filters use
getAllowedCommentKinds() (reverting to 1111-only fails the deepEqual).

Two fixes for hosted (CDN) playback that users hit on a torrent-first instance:
1. Reliability: clear crossOrigin before direct hosted playback (in
resetVideoElement and right before video.src = httpsUrl). A leftover
crossOrigin="anonymous" from a prior WebTorrent attempt on the reused
<video> forced a CORS request that CDNs / redirect targets (e.g. archive.org
storage nodes) reject, failing with MEDIA_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED ("source not
supported or blocked"). Direct <video> playback never needs CORS, so any URL
now plays.
2. CDN-first for dual-source: when a hosted URL exists, play it first for
instant, reliable startup; WebTorrent is reserved for URL-less videos (and
explicit forcedSource: "torrent"). Previously a torrent-first instance made
dual-source videos wait on a P2P cold start before falling back to the CDN.
The torrent-first branch is now only reached without a URL, so it waits
indefinitely for peers (no plan B) rather than on a fixed timeout.
Tests: hosted playback clears crossOrigin and plays; a torrent-first instance
plays the URL first when one exists and never calls WebTorrent; URL-less videos
still use WebTorrent. Spec-corrected two playbackService_order tests that
encoded the old torrent-first-for-dual-source behavior. All mutation-verified.

Under a NIP-46 remote signer, every decrypt is a PUBLISHED relay RPC. The list
services (blocks/subscriptions/hashtags) probed all decryptor families
concurrently via Promise.any — so each list event published nip04 AND nip44 RPCs
at once. On login that flooded the relay ("rate-limited: you are noting too
much"), and the racing/queued RPCs blew past the 30s decrypt budget → the
"Decryption timed out" failures.
A NIP-04 payload carries the "?iv=" marker and can ONLY be decrypted by nip04;
otherwise it's nip44. The other family can never succeed on a given ciphertext,
so racing it is pure waste (and a wasted published RPC under NIP-46). Restrict
the decrypt probe to the family matching the ciphertext format (fall back to all
if the format is somehow unknown). Halves cold-load RPCs and stops the racing
publishes that tripped the rate limit; benefits all signer types.
Spec correction: the hashtag "retries decryptors when hinted scheme fails" test
stubbed an impossible scenario (the same ciphertext decrypting under nip04 after
nip44 failed). Rewritten to assert the real contract — the ciphertext format
routes decryption and overrides a misleading `encrypted` tag, invoking only the
matching decryptor.

Two gaps where generic S3 trailed Cloudflare R2:
1. Object cleanup on delete/edit didn't work for generic S3. deleteVideoStorage
built its client via makeR2Client, which hard-forces path-style and ignores
the connection's forcePathStyle -- so vhost-style S3 deletes were misaddressed
and cleanup silently failed (S3 users' deleted/edited files orphaned). It is
now provider-aware (mirrors uploadFile): R2 -> makeR2Client (path-style),
generic S3 -> makeS3Client honoring forcePathStyle. makeS3Client is now
injectable for testing.
2. CORS guidance on upload failure was R2-only. Extracted isLikelyCorsError +
a generic-S3 guidance builder into js/utils/uploadErrorHints.js (re-exported
from r2Service for back-compat); s3UploadService now appends actionable CORS
guidance on an opaque "Failed to fetch" too.
Generic S3 is now at functional parity with R2 for upload -> publish -> cleanup.
Tests: r2-delete-video-storage (adds generic-S3 forcePathStyle routing),
s3-upload-cors-guidance (new). Full suite green.

A new user's top first-upload failure is a missing R2 CORS policy (browser
PUT/POST blocked) -- and object-scoped R2 tokens often cannot auto-set CORS.
The connection test already surfaces buildCorsGuidance on the opaque
"Failed to fetch", but a user who skips the test and uploads directly got a
bare "Upload failed: Failed to fetch". The upload error handler now detects the
browser CORS/network rejection (isLikelyCorsError -- Chrome "Failed to fetch",
Firefox "NetworkError", Safari "Load failed") and appends the same actionable
guidance. Updated the R2 follow-up TODO (credential audit done; CORS reviewed).
Test: tests/services/r2-cors-error-classifier.test.mjs. Full suite green.

Deleting a video removed the Nostr note but left the actual file (plus its
thumbnail and .torrent) publicly downloadable at its R2/S3 URL forever — a
privacy gap and ongoing storage cost. Now the delete flow also removes the
backing objects, best-effort.
- collectVideoStorageKeys() (storagePointer.js): pure helper that derives the
object keys (video + sibling .torrent + thumbnail) from a note, ONLY for URLs
under the owner's bucket base — external/3rd-party URLs are never returned.
- R2Service.deleteVideoStorage(): resolves the owner's connection, and deletes
those keys. Skips cleanly when storage is locked / no creds / no owned
objects, and never throws (failures are recorded, not propagated) so storage
cleanup can't block note deletion. R2Service class now exported for testing.
- app.handleDeleteModalConfirm: calls it after handleFullDeleteVideo succeeds.
Tests: tests/storage-key-collection.test.mjs (4),
tests/services/r2-delete-video-storage.test.mjs (4). Full suite green.
Note: superseded versions orphaned by past edits aren't retroactively cleaned;
edit-time cleanup (next) prevents new orphans going forward.

These optional-asset uploads are non-fatal, but failures were warn-only — the
user got a silently-missing thumbnail or torrent with no signal. Both upload
services now emit a 'warning' status at the point of failure and append a note
to the final 'Published' status (downgraded to warning variant) listing what
failed. Cloudflare-upload audit #5.
Test: tests/services/s3-upload-optional-asset-failures.test.mjs.

Computing the torrent info-hash (and the content-hash fallback) reads the entire
file before the upload starts and before any progress is emitted, so on
multi-GB videos there was a long silent pause that looked like a freeze. Both
upload services now emit an 'Analyzing video…' status when a full-file hash is
required (i.e. no valid info-hash was pre-supplied). Cloudflare-upload audit #2.
Test: tests/services/s3-upload-analyzing-status.test.mjs.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <[email protected]>
buildR2Key fell back to a static "uploads" namespace (and "video" slug) when
no torrent info-hash was available, so two distinct URL-first uploads sharing a
filename produced the SAME R2/S3 key — the second silently overwrote the first
object while the first video note still pointed at that URL (data loss).
WebTorrent uploads were already safe because the info-hash namespaces the key.
Add computeStorageContentHash(file) in js/r2.js: when no info-hash is present it
derives a deterministic content-based namespace — full SHA-256 of the bytes for
files ≤512 MB (idempotent: re-uploading the same file reuses the key), and a
SHA-256 fingerprint over name/size/mtime + sampled head/tail bytes above that,
so we never buffer a multi-GB video in memory. Wired into BOTH upload paths
(r2Service + s3UploadService) via a new storageIdentifier kept separate from the
info-hash, so magnet generation is unchanged.
Test: tests/storage-key-collision.test.mjs (distinct same-named uploads get
distinct keys; same content is idempotent; large-file fingerprint path samples

A raw window.nostr probe in the user's browser (getPublicKey → nip04.encrypt
→ nip04.decrypt, bypassing ALL of bitvid) HUNG forever, with the extension's
own console showing `ObjectMultiplex - orphaned data for "background-liveness"`
+ `malformed chunk` + listener-leak warnings. That is the NIP-07 extension's
content-script ↔ background-service-worker channel being dead (classic MV3
worker death) — an extension/environment failure, not a bitvid bug. No client
change can force an unresponsive signer to answer; the fix is to reload/unlock
the extension.
What bitvid CAN do is stop failing silently. Add js/utils/signerHealthNotice.js:
after a few consecutive list-decrypt timeouts while the signer reports itself
present, emit ONE rate-limited, actionable user notice ("your signer isn't
responding to decryption — unlock/reload the extension and refresh") instead of
the silent 15-minute retry loop. Reset on any decrypt success so a transient
blip doesn't warn. Wired into blocks, hashtags, and subscriptions.
Also documents the definitive root-cause + all resilience increments in
KNOWN_BUGS #0. Test: tests/signer-health-notice.test.mjs (threshold, rate-limit,
success-reset). Full unit suite green.

Real-env console: signerStatus "present" but every block/hashtag decrypt
timed out at the 15s service budget, forever, retrying every ~15s for
15+ minutes — lists never loaded.
Reproduced deterministically with the channel-sim harness (latency
override): with per-call latency BELOW the service budget all lists load;
the instant it crosses the budget every list fails (NO) and retries
forever. A nip-07 decrypt is a postMessage round-trip to the extension's
single-threaded, possibly-sleeping service worker — under cold-login load
real extensions take 15-25s to answer even though the crypto is instant.
The earlier 6s per-call timeout was killing those in-progress decrypts.
Raise the budget across blocks/hashtags/subscriptions so a slow-but-
responsive signer completes instead of timing out:
- service-level DECRYPT_TIMEOUT_MS 15s → 30s
- per-call nip-07 decrypt timeout 6s → 25s interactive / ~10-12s background
- backoff cap 30s → 60s so a persistently dead signer settles into an
occasional heartbeat instead of pinning the extension every ~15s
Harness: at 16s/call (previously NO across the board) blocks +
subscriptions + hashtags now all decrypt (0 timeouts); healthy mode
unchanged (signer-ready ~1.2s). Full unit suite green. KNOWN_BUGS #0.

Built a deterministic NIP-07 channel-simulation harness
(scripts/perf/nip07-channel-sim.mjs) that reproduces the real cold-login
failure locally with a fake extension whose message channel drops under
concurrent load (MODE=overload), recovers (MODE=slow), or stays dead. It
seeds a real encrypted block list and reports whether it decrypts.
The harness pinned the actual root cause that the relay/breaker/timeout
work hadn't fixed: when the channel briefly drops during the login burst,
the per-scheme decrypt probe (Promise.any) rejects with
"message channel closed" — and every list service SWALLOWED that and
treated it as "the user has no blocks / no subs / no hashtags", or routed
it to a give-up branch. Either way: no retry, so the list stayed empty
until a full page refresh, even though the channel recovered seconds later.
Fix: classify transient failures (channel-death messages, breaker fast-fail
code, our own decrypt-timeout) and route them to the existing keep-stale +
scheduleDecryptRetry path instead of swallowing/abandoning:
- userBlocks: re-throw a transient sub-error out of the Promise.any probe
(was silently returning [] = "no blocks"); route it (and channel/breaker
errors) through the retry branch.
- hashtagPreferencesService + subscriptions: broaden the retry condition
from the timeout code only to any transient error, recursing into the
nested Promise.any AggregateError causes.
Harness verdict (MODE=overload, 16 channel drops): block list
BLOCK LIST DECRYPTED NO -> YES after the fix; signer-ready ~1.9s.
Adds getAppState().lists observability to the test harness. Full unit
suite green. KNOWN_BUGS #0.

Real-env console (2026-06-15) showed [signer-ready] taking ~48s and every
list decrypt timing out before AND after it. Root mechanism: a priority
inversion on the 2-slot NIP-07 request queue.
- List decrypts run at NIP07_PRIORITY.HIGH; the readiness gate's
permission/enable handshake ran at NORMAL. So a flood of HIGH-priority
decrypts jumped ahead of the gate and starved it — the channel never got
warmed, so the decrypts kept failing. Fix: add NIP07_PRIORITY.CRITICAL
(above HIGH) and run the permission/enable handshake at CRITICAL so it
always wins queue ordering.
- Login-time decrypt timeouts were 12-15s even though a healthy
nip04/nip44 decrypt is local crypto (~1s); the long window was only to
tolerate a first-grant prompt, which the gate already pre-grants. A 15s
timeout just monopolizes one of the two queue slots on a doomed call,
blocking the gate for 15s at a time. Cut blocks/hashtags/subscriptions
login decrypt timeouts to 6s so slots cycle ~2.5x faster (and the circuit
breaker trips in ~18s instead of ~45s). Service-level 15s wrappers stay
as a backstop (now strictly longer than the nip07 layer).
Part of KNOWN_BUGS #0 ("cut the burst, then add a safety net"). Full unit
suite green.

Real-env console shows the encrypted lists are FETCHED but DECRYPTION fails on
cold login: hashtags time out at 6s, blocks report signerStatus 'missing', DMs
throw 'helpers unavailable'. Root cause: a relay-connection storm to the user's
~20 dead NIP-65 relays (subsystems use uncapped relayManager read+write) starves
the nip-07 extension. Bumping the decrypt timeout to 15s (matching blocks) is a
partial mitigation for hashtags/subscriptions. The proper fix (bound reads to a
liveness-ranked healthy core incl. defaults + DM decrypt retry) is documented in
KNOWN_BUGS #0 — a first capReadRelays attempt was reverted because capping block
reads broke the security-critical user-blocks integration test.

performProfileFetch now issues ONE deduped, health-gated list() across all
relays via the L1 SubscriptionManager (the pool merges per-relay results),
replacing the manual per-relay fan-out. Newest-per-author selection unchanged;
legacy per-relay path retained as the manager-less fallback.
Spec correction: tests/app-batch-fetch-profiles.test.mjs asserted one query
PER relay (implementation detail); updated to assert one BATCHED query across
all relays. All behavioral assertions (cached hydration, newest profile
rendered, failing relay tolerated) unchanged; added a relays-targeting
assertion. Documented in TEST_INTEGRITY.md (SCN-profiles-batched).

The two feed-driving list subscriptions (kind-30000 follows, kind-30015/30005
hashtag prefs) now go through the L1 SubscriptionManager instead of the global
relaySubscriptionService singleton: centralized dedup + reconnect re-issue (the
lists self-heal after a relay drop). Handles are stored and closed on teardown;
relaySubscriptionService is retained as the manager-less fallback.
Verified: subscriptions-manager/-feed + hashtag-preferences suites pass (32);
flaky multi-relay harness still all-PASS; pool-access lint clean.

Replaces the per-video live report subscription (one pool.sub per visible
video × ~20 relays, re-fired on every reconnect — the ~1000 REQ/s storm) with
ONE batched SubscriptionManager subscription over the whole active id set,
updated in place as the set changes. Backfill fetches history only for
newly-added ids (one batched list()). Unchanged sets are a no-op (dedup guard).
MODERATION_REPORT_SUBS_ENABLED flipped back on. Trusted-mute subs were already
batched-by-author, so the relay cap + contact-loop fix already tamed them.
Legacy per-id path retained only for SubscriptionManager-less environments
(unit tests / mock clients). All 39 moderation tests pass; new cheat-resistant
batching test added; nip07-heat shows reports no longer storm (steady idle).

P1 foundation of the data-flow refactor (docs/architecture-refactor.md):
- js/nostr/subscriptionManager.js: the single chokepoint for relay reads.
Builds on relaySubscriptionService (dedup by key) and adds: health-gated
default relays, deduped one-shot list() with timeout, and a reconnect
registry that re-issues active subs centrally (instead of every subsystem
re-subscribing on reconnect — the storm amplifier). Callers pass batched
filters (one REQ for many ids), never per-item.
- Export RelaySubscriptionService class for test isolation.
- scripts/check-direct-pool-access.mjs + lint:pool-access: fail on NEW direct
pool.sub/list usage; 12 grandfathered files listed as migration targets
(allowlist may only shrink).
Nothing rewired yet — additive. Pilot (video feed) and per-subsystem
migration follow. Cheat-resistant tests included.

Real-environment console logs revealed nip-07 login pegging the CPU and
starving encrypted-list decryption via relay REQ storms (~1000 REQ/s):
- moderationService.rebuildTrustedContacts emitted "contacts"
unconditionally, forming an emit->fetch->emit loop (~1600 kind-3 REQ/s).
Now emits only on actual change. Regression test added.
- Per-video live report (kind 1984) and view-count (kind 30079)
subscriptions fan out O(videos x relays) and re-fire on every flaky-relay
reconnect. Circuit-broken behind flags until batched (see refactor plan).
- onVideosShouldRefresh now coalesces forced reloads (2s leading-edge
throttle) so list-change signals can't drive a reload loop.
- nip-07 queue reserves one foreground slot; DM decryption demoted to LOW
so background DM backfill can't starve feed-driving lists. Test added.

loadVideos awaited ensureAccessControlReady -> waitForReady -> _performRefresh
-> loadAdminState, which awaits a remote admin-list fetch. On a cold load that
waits for relays to connect (~5s) plus the fetch, stalling the feed ~10s before
any video renders. The cached admin state IS hydrated synchronously at
construction, but with markLoaded:false, so waitForReady blocked on a full
remote refresh even when a usable cache existed ("refresh fixes it").
ensureAccessControlReady now blocks only on a first-ever cold load WITH whitelist
mode (where showing non-whitelisted content before the whitelist arrives would be
wrong). In every other case — admin state hydrated from the localStorage cache,
already loaded, or blacklist-only mode — it kicks the refresh off in the
background (ensureReady) and renders immediately; the reactive
onWhitelist/onBlacklistChange handlers re-filter the grid once fresh lists land.
Adds accessControl.isHydrated() and a branching test
(nostr-service-access-control-ready.test.mjs).

Optimizes the `subscribeVideos` callback in `js/services/nostrService.js` to handle video updates incrementally, avoiding O(N*M) complexity during high-volume updates (e.g., initial load).
Changes:
- Modified `js/nostr/videoEventBuffer.js` to include deleted videos in the flushed batch, allowing consumers to handle deletions incrementally.
- Updated `js/services/nostrService.js` to process `updatedVideos` incrementally:
- Separates updates into active and deleted.
- Updates `this.videosMap` directly (removing deleted, adding/updating active).
- Filters and caches only the active updates (O(M)).
- Emits `videos:updated` with the full sorted list (derived from the updated map) to maintain API contract with consumers.
- Persists the full sorted list to localStorage.
This reduces the per-batch overhead significantly by avoiding O(N) filtering and map reconstruction for every batch of updates.
