- Added `NIP_INVENTORY.md` tracking compliance status for all referenced NIPs/Kinds.
- Added `nip-report-2025-02-12.md` summarizing audit findings.
- Added `CONTEXT.md`, `TODO.md`, `DECISIONS.md`, `TEST_LOG.md`.
- Added automated regression tests in `tests/compliance/`:
  - `nip04_44_compliance.test.mjs`: Verifies encryption fallback logic.
  - `nip65_compliance.test.mjs`: Verifies relay list loading (Kind 10002).
  - `video_note_compliance.test.mjs`: Verifies video note (Kind 30078) structure and NIP-71 tagging.

NIP Compliance Report - 2025-02-12

Summary

Performed a comprehensive audit of NIP compliance for bitvid (unstable). Verified P0 items (Encryption, Relay Lists, Video Notes) via automated regression tests.

Findings

P0 Items (Critical)

Item	NIPs	Status	Verification
Encryption	NIP-04, NIP-44	Compliant	Verified `createNip46Cipher` prefers NIP-44 v2 and falls back to NIP-04. Verified decryption handles both formats.
Relay Lists	NIP-65 (Kind 10002)	Compliant	Verified `relayManager.loadRelayList` requests Kind 10002 and parses `read`/`write` markers correctly.
Video Notes	Kind 30078, NIP-71	Compliant	Verified `prepareVideoPublishPayload` constructs Kind 30078 with proper `d` tag and embeds NIP-71 tags (`title`, `t`ags, etc).
Auth	NIP-07	Compliant	Verified permissions handling and async `window.nostr` detection logic in `nip07Permissions.js`.

Other Findings

Kind 30078 events do not include the summary tag from NIP-71 metadata, which is correct as NIP-71 defines content as summary for Kind 21/22.
NIP-10 threading is implemented in buildCommentEvent.
NIP-51 Lists (Mute/Subscription) follow standard specs.

Remediation

No code changes were required for compliance.
Added regression tests in tests/compliance/.

Next Steps

Monitor magnet-uri dependency status (currently extraneous in environment).
Continue monitoring NIP-17 rollout.
