# Phase 1 Complete: Fixture Import Harness
We've successfully completed the first phase of the Nostr Governance development plan, which focused on creating a fixture import harness for BitVid parity cases.
## What Was Accomplished
### 1. Repository Structure
- Created fixture directories for all BitVid governance components:
- `admin-state/` - Administrative list states
- `reports/` - User reports on other users
- `trusted-mutes/` - Trusted mute aggregations
- `overrides/` - Viewer-specific overrides
- `expectations/` - Expected outcomes for test cases
### 2. Import Infrastructure
- Created `scripts/import-bitvid-fixtures.mjs` script for extracting behavioral cases from BitVid
- Script is designed to work with BitVid as a read-only reference repository
- Added proper directory setup functions and placeholder creation
### 3. Characterization Framework
- Defined `fixtures/bitvid/characterization-cases.json` with 19 key behavioral cases from BitVid
- Created conformance test harness in `tests/conformance/bitvid-fixtures.test.js`
- Added testing utilities in `packages/testing/src/conformance.js`
### 4. Validation
- All checks pass:
- `npm run check:references` - No forbidden imports
- `npm run typecheck` - TypeScript validation
- `npm test` - All tests passing (4 tests, 1 skipped)
## Key Architectural Decisions
1. **Reference-Only Approach**: BitVid remains a read-only reference, with behavior extracted via fixtures
2. **Behavioral Focus**: Cases are defined by outcomes, not implementation details
3. **Guardrails**: Import script will prevent accidental live imports from BitVid source
4. **Extensible Framework**: Structure allows for easy addition of new characterization cases
## Next Steps
1. Implement actual fixture extraction from BitVid source files
2. Begin core implementation (identifiers, targets, authority resolution)
3. Create the pure evaluator that can process these fixtures
4. Add first real characterization tests based on actual BitVid behavior
This work provides a solid foundation for safely extracting governance behavior from BitVid without accidentally creating tight coupling between the repositories. |
