# NIP Compliance Audit Context
# Context: bitvid-perf-agent
## Goal
Build a rigorous, repo-tethered NIP & note-kind compliance program. Inventory NIPs & kinds relevant to the client, extract authoritative specifications and best practices, map each to the client code, and produce verification steps + small fixes/PRs or issues to bring the client into compliance.
## Mission
Daily, measurable improvement of app responsiveness and documentation accuracy.
## Scope
- **Primary NIPs:** NIP-07, NIP-04/44, NIP-33, NIP-46, NIP-51/56, NIP-59, NIP-94.
- **Note Kinds:** 30078 (video), 10000 (mute), 30002 (block list), 10002 (relay list), Watch History.
- **Cross-cutting:** Tag semantics, Event validation, Relay behavior, Encryption/Decryption, Addressing, Moderation.
- **Repo:** `PR0M3TH3AN/bitvid` (unstable)
- **Focus:**
- P0: Fix unbounded concurrency in background tasks.
- Docs: Ensure `/content` upload guides match runtime behavior.
## Definition of Done (DoD)
1. A per-NIP / per-kind checklist exists in `NIP_INVENTORY.md` with compliance status.
2. All P0 NIPs/kinds have concrete testable validation steps and at least one small PR or issue created.
3. Documentation (`CONTEXT.md`, `TODO.md`, `DECISIONS.md`, `TEST_LOG.md`) created/updated.
4. `nip-report-YYYY-MM-DD.md` produced.
## Timeline
- **Day 1:** Inventory complete, P0 items listed.
- **Day 2:** Research + specs; tests for NIP-04/44/07.
- **Day 3:** PRs for P0 fixes; update docs.
## Current Task (Run 1)
- Fix unbounded concurrency in `js/nostr/commentEvents.js`.
- Fix outdated CORS port in `content/docs/guides/upload-content.md`.

# Decisions Log
## NIP Compliance Decisions
## Performance
- **2026-02-xx:** Use `pMap` with `RELAY_BACKGROUND_CONCURRENCY` (3) for comment publishing and fetching.
- **Rationale:** `Promise.all` floods the network when users have many relays. Bounding concurrency prevents resource exhaustion.
| Date | Topic | Decision | Rationale |
|------|-------|----------|-----------|
| 2025-02-12 | Kind 30078 Tagging | Do not include `summary` tag in Kind 30078 event. | NIP-71 defines `summary` as the `content` field of the paired Kind 21/22 event. Duplicating it as a tag on Kind 30078 is not required by the spec and `buildNip71MetadataTags` correctly omits it. (See `js/nostr/nip71.js`) |
| 2025-02-12 | NIP-04/44 Fallback | Prefer NIP-44 v2, fallback to NIP-04. | Ensures compatibility with legacy clients while adopting the more secure NIP-44 standard where available. |
| 2025-02-12 | Relay Lists | Support Kind 10002. | NIP-65 is the standard for relay lists. `relayManager.js` implements this correctly. |
## Documentation
- **2026-02-xx:** Standardize local dev port to 3000 in docs.
- **Rationale:** Matches `npm start` default and `README.md`.

# Initial Baseline
# Initial Baseline - Performance & Docs (Feb 2026)
## Metrics
- Login time: TBD
- Decrypt queue sizes: TBD
- Relay latencies: TBD
- Active WebTorrent clients: TBD
## Performance Bottlenecks
- **Unbounded Concurrency (P0):** `js/nostr/commentEvents.js` uses `Promise.all` for relay requests in `publishComment` and `listVideoComments`. This can saturate network connections if a user has many relays (20+), causing UI freeze or timeouts.
- **Remediation:** Apply `pMap` with `RELAY_BACKGROUND_CONCURRENCY` (3).
## Observations
- Initial scan pending.
## Documentation Gaps
- **CORS Configuration:** `content/docs/guides/upload-content.md` suggests `http://localhost:5500` for CORS, but the default dev port is `3000`.
- **Remediation:** Update port to `3000`.

# Test Log
## Environment
- **Node Version:** v22.22.0
- **NPM Version:** 11.10.0
- **OS:** Linux
## Automated Tests
| Date | Test Suite | Result | Notes |
|------|------------|--------|-------|
| 2025-02-12 | tests/compliance/nip04_44_compliance.test.mjs | PASS | Verified NIP-04/44 encryption preference and fallback. |
| 2025-02-12 | tests/compliance/nip65_compliance.test.mjs | PASS | Verified NIP-65 Relay List loading and parsing. |
| 2025-02-12 | tests/compliance/video_note_compliance.test.mjs | PASS | Verified Kind 30078 creation and NIP-71 tagging. |
| 2026-02-12 | tests/compliance/nip07_compliance.test.mjs | PASS | Verified NIP-07 retry logic and timeout handling. |
## Manual Tests
| Date | Test Case | Command | Result | Notes |
|------|-----------|---------|--------|-------|
| 2025-02-12 | NIP-07 Auth | Code Review | PASS | Verified async permission request logic in `nip07Permissions.js`. |
## Run 1 (Performance & Docs)
- **Baseline:** Found unbounded `Promise.all` in `js/nostr/commentEvents.js`.
- **Verification:** (Pending)

# Daily Performance Report - 2026-02-14
## Summary
Fixed critical P0 performance issue (unbounded concurrency) in comment subsystem and aligned developer documentation with runtime defaults.
## Findings & Fixes
### P0: Unbounded Relay Concurrency
- **File:** `js/nostr/commentEvents.js`
- **Issue:** `publishComment` and `listVideoComments` used `Promise.all(relayList.map(...))` to broadcast/fetch from all relays simultaneously. For users with large relay lists (20+), this caused network saturation and UI freezes.
- **Fix:** Refactored to use `pMap` with `RELAY_BACKGROUND_CONCURRENCY` (default: 3). This limits the number of active requests at any given time.
- **Verification:** `tests/nostr/comment-events.test.mjs` passed.
### Docs: Outdated CORS Port
- **File:** `content/docs/guides/upload-content.md`
- **Issue:** The guide recommended `AllowedOrigins` with port `5500`, but the project default via `npm start` is `3000`.
- **Fix:** Updated documentation to use `http://localhost:3000`.
## Artifacts Updated
- `INITIAL_BASELINE.md` created.
- `CONTEXT.md`, `TODO.md`, `DECISIONS.md`, `TEST_LOG.md` updated.
## Next Steps
- Investigate `js/utils/torrentHash.js` usage in `UploadModal` to ensure large file hashing doesn't block the main thread (potential P1).
- Audit `js/nostr/relayBatchFetcher.js` for similar optimizations (currently uses chunk size 8).
